Born in Dalby, Queensland, Andrew McCullough was scouted by the Brisbane Broncos at age twelve and debuted in the NRL as a 19‑year‑old hooker. Over 16 seasons he amassed more than 260 games for the Broncos before adding stints with the Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra Dragons. Known for his extraordinary tackle count and game management, he played in the 2015 NRL Grand Final and earned State of Origin honours for Queensland.
McCullough reached the 200‑game milestone in 2017, becoming the youngest forward to do so and celebrating with a try and 61 tackles in his milestone match. That season he won his second Paul Morgan Medal as Brisbane’s player of the year, having first claimed the award in 2012 and sharing the Players’ Player honour. In 2022 he joined rugby league’s coveted 300‑game club, the 44th player to achieve the feat, with NRL CEO Andrew Abdo highlighting his 12,345 tackles and leadership across three clubs. Later that year he retired with 309 first‑grade games to transition into family life and off‑field opportunities.
Off the field, McCullough’s reputation as an “ultimate professional” led to media work with SEN QLD, Triple M and Fox Sports, where his analytical insights and approachable style have made him a trusted voice. Managed by Agency X, he is now a sought‑after speaker and panel host, offering candid stories about teamwork, perseverance and life after sport.
