Profile

About Andrew

Born in Dalby, Queensland, Andrew McCullough signed a Brisbane Broncos scholarship at thirteen and debuted in the NRL at eighteen. Over 15 seasons he amassed 260 games for the Broncos before adding stints with the Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra Dragons. Known for his extraordinary tackle count and game management, he played in the 2015 NRL Grand Final and earned State of Origin honours for Queensland.

McCullough reached the 200-game milestone in 2017 — the youngest player to do so — and that season won his second Paul Morgan Medal as Brisbane’s player of the year, having first claimed the award in 2012. In 2022 he joined rugby league’s 300-game club as the 44th player, and just the fourth specialist hooker, to achieve the feat — with NRL CEO Andrew Abdo highlighting the 12,345 tackles he had made on the way to the milestone. He retired later that year with 309 first-grade games.

Off the field, McCullough’s reputation as an “ultimate professional” has carried straight into broadcast: he is part of SEN’s NRL commentary team, on air across Queensland, and coaches the next generation as an assistant with the Queensland Under-19 Maroons. Managed by Agency X, he is a sought-after speaker and panel host, offering candid lessons on teamwork, perseverance and life after sport — with an authenticity that resonates with corporate audiences and sporting communities alike.

What event bookers say

“Andrew delivered a fantastic insight into the world of being a professional athlete. He provided a rare insight into the positive habits required to be successful and the emphasis on the little things done consistently makes the biggest impact. He was very articulate in the way he spoke and was more than happy to spend time with families outside of his presentation. Would happily recommend him for other events.”

BEN COLLEY — RUGBY LEAGUE COORDINATOR, WAVELL HEIGHTS STATE HIGH SCHOOL

“Andrew McCullough presented a great message to our students and families at our Academy Launch. He was truly professional, contacting prior to the event to ensure that his message was in line with our vision for the night and for the Academy. He engaged the crowd in a keynote presentation, highlighting his career as well as setbacks in sport. Our community loved the message and we are continually hearing about takeaways and discussions that were had around the Dinner Table that night as a result.”
