Why brands choose Joel

Joel fits performance, endurance and comeback briefs at the sharpest end of Australian team sport.

Twice Hockey One’s leading goal scorer and a 2023 champion with Brisbane Blaze, he scored back-to-back international hat-tricks in his first week as a Kookaburra and returned from 430 days out injured to make Australia’s 2026 World Cup squad. For brands, he is an athlete at peak relevance — a World Cup this August, a strike rate that writes its own headlines, and clinic-ready credibility with junior hockey audiences.

About Joel

Joel Rintala is a breakout star forward for the Australian Kookaburras field hockey team, who exploded onto the international scene after scoring back-to-back hat-tricks in his second and third games in the green and gold.

A member of the Brisbane Blaze in the Sultana Bran Hockey One League, Joel is a 2023 Hockey One champion and has twice finished as the league’s top goal scorer — in 2022, and again in 2025 when his 20 goals led the competition.

Joel began his international career winning gold at the 2017 Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, with the U21 Australian squad. Making his senior debut in the 2023 FIH Pro League, Joel scored a hat-trick in just 21 minutes in his second game, helping Australia defeat New Zealand on Anzac Day. Days later, he repeated the feat against Great Britain — including an equaliser in the dying minutes that sent the game to a shootout Australia won — earning back-to-back player-of-the-match honours.

After 430 days out of the game through injury, Joel returned in June 2025 with the equaliser in a comeback win over India — taking his record to nine goals in his first seven internationals — and in July 2026 was named in the Kookaburras’ 20-man squad for the FIH World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands, where Australia will chase a fourth title.
