About Gerry

The man, the myth, the legend… Gerry Geltch is a passionate and outgoing media personality and motivational speaker, owner of Air Fraser Island, and the runner-up of Australian Survivor Season 8: Heroes v Villains — with a remarkable life story to share.

A pilot on K’gari (Fraser Island) for more than three decades, Gerry has faced challenges most careers never see. In 2000, while a passenger on a test flight of a 10-seater Cessna, he was involved in a plane crash that left him with life-threatening injuries. With the undying support of family and friends, Gerry made a remarkable recovery — by his own telling, he was flying again within six months.

Twenty years later he proved it was no fluke. When a component failure forced him to ditch a Cessna off K’gari in 2020, Gerry freed himself from the submerged aircraft, went back for his 20-year-old trainee, and swam him some 300 metres to shore. The official investigation that followed produced safety recommendations to Cessna, the FAA and CASA — his worst day made flying safer worldwide.

In 2012, Gerry’s eldest son Dayne tragically passed away, marking another dark time for he and his family. Gerry once again leant on his passion and love for the island life to regain strength and commitment to his own life — a process he believes he has not mastered, but hopes to share his experience of. TO CONFIRM — year with Gerry

In another test of strength, Gerry took on TV’s ultimate game — Australian Survivor. Guided by his experience, he outwitted, outplayed and outlasted his competitors as the oldest contestant ever to appear on the series, going 47 days to finish runner-up of Season 8: Heroes v Villains.

A family man first and foremost, Gerry is unafraid in his pursuit of new experiences — an aspiring actor, model and dancer — while serving as a motivational speaker on life and death, rags to riches, coping with loss, depression and anxiety, building a business from the foundations, and his great passion, aviation. At his heart, Gerry is the true definition of a true Aussie battler!
